Privacy Policy
Dibs collects only what it needs to split bills with your groups. We don't sell your data, show ads or use analytics trackers.
This policy covers the Dibs app for iOS and Android and this website. Dibs is made by Entropy Positive ("we", "us"). If you have a question about anything here, email support@entropypositive.com.
What we collect
Your account
You sign in with Google. We receive your name, email address and profile photo from Google, and store them so the people in your groups can recognise you. We never see your Google password.
Groups, bills and balances
Everything you create in the app: group names and members, bills, line items and prices, which items you called dibs on, tax and tip, currencies, categories, and the payments you record when you settle up. This is the core of the app, and the members of a group can see that group's bills and balances.
Receipt photos
When you scan a receipt, the photo is sent to our servers to read the items and prices, and it is stored with the bill so your group can check it later. Only take photos of receipts. Avoid capturing card numbers or other personal details in the picture.
Invites
If you invite someone by email, we store their address with the invite and send them one email about it.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, we store a device token so we can tell you about activity in your groups, such as a new bill or a settled balance. You can turn notifications off in your phone's settings at any time.
Purchases
Premium and Group Pass are bought through the App Store or Google Play. Apple or Google handle the payment, and we never see your card details. We receive and keep a record of what you bought and when, so we can unlock the right features on your account.
What we don't collect
We don't collect your location or contacts, we don't use advertising or analytics SDKs, and we don't track you across other apps or websites. This website doesn't use cookies.
How we use it
- To run the app: sign you in, sync your groups and bills, and calculate who owes what.
- To read receipts you scan and turn them into line items.
- To send the invite emails and notifications described above.
- To check your purchases and apply free-tier limits, such as the number of scans.
- To keep the service secure, fix problems, and meet legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information or use it to advertise to you.
Who we share it with
Other members of your groups see your name, photo, and your part in that group's bills. Apart from them, we share data only with the providers that run Dibs for us, and only for that purpose:
- Google Firebase and Google Cloud: sign-in, database, file storage, server functions and push notifications. Receipt photos are read by Google Cloud Vision and Vertex AI to extract items. Google processes this data on our behalf and does not use it to train its models.
- Resend: delivers invite emails.
- Apple and Google: process in-app purchases under their own privacy policies.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or of Entropy Positive.
Where it's stored and for how long
Your data is stored on Google Cloud servers, which may be outside your country. We keep it for as long as you have an account. Bills you shared with a group stay visible to that group's other members until the group is deleted, because they are part of everyone's balances.
Deleting your account
To delete your account, email support@entropypositive.com from the address you sign in with. Within 30 days we will delete your profile, push tokens, pending invites and receipt photos you uploaded, and remove your name from shared bills. We keep purchase records for as long as tax and accounting law requires.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, or to object to how we use it. Email us to exercise any of these rights, and we'll respond within 30 days. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
Dibs is not meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them. If you think a child has given us data, contact us and we'll delete it.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and only signed-in users can reach it. No system is perfectly secure, so please tell us right away if you notice anything wrong.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. For significant changes, we'll also let you know in the app.
